Minimum Qualifications Appointment Method:

This is an appointment to a position in the exempt jurisdictional class. As such, the incumbent of this position would serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Duties Description The Department of Financial Services (“DFS”) is seeking candidates to fill the position of Information Security Analyst - Security Intelligence in their Cybersecurity Division’s Cyber Intelligence Unit. Interested and qualified candidates will have demonstrated experience performing threat intelligence analysis and/or research into novel threats. In this role, you will have the opportunity to help define new threat research processes and procedures, lead investigations into new and emerging threats, and produce intelligence that several groups consume within the DFS. Duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Supports the management of the comprehensive threat intelligence research and analysis lifecycle;
• Provides mentorship and guidance in threat intelligence to junior researchers, examiners, and cyber captains;
• Identifies and monitors open and closed sources for intelligence on new and emerging threats relevant to NYS Licensed Entities;
• Instills best practices for threat intelligence research and documentation, assures work meets requirements, and delivers high-quality work on tight schedules;
• Articulates threat intelligence research to a vast set of internal stakeholders through reports and presentations; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Formal qualifications are not filed for this position. However, the following may be considered minimally acceptable:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, or related field preferred.
• One to two years experience in security roles. Preferrable experience with Incident Response and Forensics.
• Experience analyzing and deriving intelligence from phishing and malware campaigns, vulnerabilities being exploited in the wild, supply chain attacks, and data breaches.
• Strong understanding of how to quickly extract technically relevant threat intelligence from various sources and apply that to detection/response methods across multiple security technologies/products.
• Strong understanding of threat protection/detection tooling/stacks used for endpoint, network, and cloud: SIEM, TIP, SOAR, Security Analytics.
• Participated in sharing threat intelligence through ISACs, Trust Groups, intelligence partnerships, or other open communities.

Preferred Certifications:

• Certification in: CompTIA Security+
• ISC2 – Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
• GIAC – Cyber Threat Intelligence (GCTI) certification

Preferred Skills:

• Analytical skills, team player, communications, resourceful self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude and proficiency in M.S. Office.

Additional Comments Positions located within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, are also eligible to receive an additional $3,026 annual downstate adjustment.
