Temporary: Community Mental Health Nurse is a continuous recruitment examination. Candidates who are not currently on the eligible list may apply for this position and if appointed, will receive a temporary appointment. Candidates who receive a temporary appointment must receive a score that is reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. To qualify, candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State, or possess a limited permit to practice nursing in New York State. (You must obtain your New York State license within one year of the date of appointment or action will be taken to remove you from the position.) AND have a bachelor's or higher degree in one of the areas listed below*; AND two years of professional clinical nursing experience, including at least one year as described below **; OR have 30 college credits in the areas listed below* IN ADDITION TO an associate's degree in nursing or completion of a three-year nursing program AND three years of professional clinical nursing experience, including at least one year as described below **

* Acceptable areas include nursing, health care administration, public administration in a health care area, public health, community mental health, community mental health counseling, psychology, sociology, biology, social work or human services. The 30 credits may include up to two statistics courses. Courses/degrees in physical education, recreation therapy, English, history, math, anthropology, languages, etc. are NOT acceptable.

** One year of experience in providing direct services to individuals diagnosed with mental illness, mental retardation, developmental disabilities, or alcohol or substance abuse in a COMMUNITY SETTING, e.g., a halfway house, visiting nurse, or a community clinic. SUBSTITUTION: A master's degree in community mental health may be substituted for this experience only.

Duties Description Assignment Information:

Function as a supervising nurse in Saratoga/Washington Counties.

Duties to include but not limited to:

• Incumbent would function as assistant to the Nurse Administrator
• Providing clinical direction to Residential Nurses
• Assist to ensure timely and current training is provided to RN’s, LPN’s and direct support staff in areas of medication administration, medical policies, and any other nursing or medical issues.

• Performing a broad range of clinical oversight and supports in management of emerging and existing medical/nursing issues
• Assisting in ensuring compliance with rules/regulations governing nursing practice in OPWDD
• Assisting coordinating with hospitals and long term care support for end of life issues and/or plan safe discharges back to medically complex houses.
• Participating in various meetings and serving on committees as needed
• Function as the back up to the NA1 or NA2 in his or her absence.
• Assist and ensuring implementation of facility policies and procedures related to nursing
• reviewing individuals’ records for compliance with agency practice/protocol and developing a plan for correcting any deficiencies found.
• Attends/completes on-line mandated DDSO training, as well as discipline specific training
• Complete special projects/assignments as assigned.
• Conduct investigations as assigned by supervisor.

• Please note that starting salary for this title reflects a geographic pay differential. Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 19 ($63,323), and Geographic Differential ($12,000). Geographic Differential added to the job rate ($80,429) for PS&T Grade 19.
