Minimum Qualifications Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including twelve (12) semester credit hours in forestry, which must include at least one course in three or more of the following areas: botany, dendrology, forest biology, forest ecology, forest ecosystem management, forest entomology, forest health, forest mensuration, forest pathology, forest protection, forest soils, general soils, geographic information systems, land surveying, and silviculture OR One (1) year of technical forestry experience in one (1) or more of the following areas: forest management, including sale and removal of timber products; nursery management, including the transplanting of tree or shrub seedlings; forest pest management, including control of diseases and insect pests.

Duties Description • Assist in the administration and development of forest management projects and outreach efforts in the Forest Stewardship, Forest Utilization and Forest Tax Law Programs.
• Collect, compile and organize data associated with program publications such as the semi-annual Stumpage Price Report and the annual Timber Harvest Report, reporting tools and other purposes.
• Provide support for various grant funded projects within the Forest Stewardship and Forest Utilization Programs, including assisting in the administration of the state funded Regenerate NY Forestry Cost Share Program.
• Provide technical assistance to regional staff by maintaining handbooks and manuals related to various forest management projects and providing direct assistance through telephone and email communication.
• Maintain web pages and various maps associated with the Stewardship, Forest Utilization and Forest Tax Law programs.
• Support special technical assignments as required for purposes such as tracking industry, forest land use trends, insect and disease management and tracking sales and distribution of forest products.
• Assist other programs within the Bureau of Forest Resource Management with various projects as needed.
• Attend various meetings, workshops and conferences.
• Utilizing various technical forestry skills, assist in the monitoring and field checking of forest management projects related to forestland enrolled in the New York State Forest Tax Law, 480a.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
A functional knowledge of ArcGIS 10 to be able to create, edit and attribute vector data; proficiency in database management; experience with Powerpoint, social media and web content management systems; strong written communication skills.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel and overnight travel may be required.

This is a temporary, hourly position funded through 3/31/22. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date which may be prior to date indicated. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
