Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.

You must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows:
In an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 5 or higher. Qualifying titles are available at: https://www.cs.ny.gov/examannouncements/announcements/37890titles.cfm.
Only the titles listed are qualifying.
Service in a direct care title is not qualifying experience. Examples of non-qualifying titles are: Developmental Disabilities Secure Care Treatment Aide 1, Direct Support Assistant, Food Service Worker 1, Licensed Practical Nurse, Mental Health Therapy Aide, Security Services Assistant, and Youth Division Aide.
IMPORTANT: candidates who pass the written test, prior to being considered for appointment, may be required to pass a keyboarding test that demonstrates your ability to enter text using an alpha numeric computer keyboard, at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy.
Qualifying Experience for Appointment from the Eligible List
After one year of the service described in the Minimum Qualifications, successful candidates will be qualified for appointment from the eligible list.

Duties Description As an Office Assistant 2 (Calculations), under the supervision of higher-level Administrative staff, duties will include but are not limited to:
• Serve as a Regional Statewide Financial System (SFS) Point-of-Contact (POC) ensuring NYSDOT, and NYS purchasing laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines are adhered to.
• The incumbent is expected to know or learn New York State purchasing guidelines, directives, and policies; and navigate the Statewide Financial System.
• Manage, prepare, and reconcile transactions, requisitions, purchase orders, and invoices in SFS.
• Serve as the liaison between Regional staff, landlord's designees, and the Office of General Services (OGS) to assist with facility issues, modifications, and/or renovations.
• Prepare letters, memos, and reports as assigned for review and signature.
• Process incoming, outgoing, and inter-office mail.
• Manage various shared e-mail boxes.
• The preferred candidate will be familiar with various software packages such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
• Additional duties as assigned.
Responsibilities may also include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
