Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the
current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance
with Civil Service Law.
Duties Description The incumbent will be responsible for timely and accurate processing of the following
forms, and additional tasks for three regions:
• Process Direct Deposit, Tax Deduction, Address Changes, and Retirement
Registration forms;
• Process Retirement Statement of Accruals;
• Enter historical employee data into a NYS Retirement System Application;
• Process time entry payments for temporary employees and other special
payments such as Tool Allowance, Uniform Allowance, Call Out Bonus, and Shift
Lump Sums;
• Process Lump sum payments for retiring/resigning employees;
• Check and audit payroll processed by other Payroll Assistants;
• Answer emails and phone calls from employees, the Office of the State
Comptroller, Human Resources offices, other agencies, etc.;
• Work with other Payroll Assistants to sort and distribute paychecks to the
Regional Offices;
• Cover other Payroll Assistants in their absence assisting with various regions;
• Archive old files, hold files, inactive employees, etc.;
• Verify accuracy of Proposed Classification Request forms (PER 120);
• Miscellaneous tasks and special projects as assigned by supervisor and payroll
manager.
Responsibilities also may include participating within the Incident Command System to
support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Additional Comments All State employees in Executive controlled agencies, who are not subject to a
mandatory vaccination requirement shall be tested for COVID-19 weekly unless
they are fully vaccinated.
