Minimum Qualifications Permanent status as an Addictions Program Specialist 1 (G-18) and interested in reassignment; OR reachable for permanent appointment on the current Civil Service eligible lists for Addictions Program Specialist 1, G-18 OR Addictions Program Specialist Trainee OR eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law OR Qualify for Provisional appointment as described below.

Provisional Qualifications:
To qualify for provisional appointment, candidate must have a bachelor’s degree AND
Either 1. two years of professional clinical* or professional administrative experience** in a public or private agency/program which directly provides diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, prevention, or aftercare to a clientele with a primary diagnosis of chemical dependency
Or 2. a master’s degree in community mental health, counseling, mental health counseling, education, human services, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology, rehabilitation, social work, or sociology and one year of professional clinical* or professional administrative experience ** in a public or private agency/program which directly provides diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, prevention, or aftercare to a clientele with a primary diagnosis of chemical dependency.

*Professional clinical experience for this examination is defined as the care, treatment, or instruction of patients in the disciplines of addictions counseling, mental health counseling, rehabilitation counseling, nursing, psychology, social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, or as a physician’s assistant.
**Professional administrative experience for this examination is defined as experience in the fields of personnel management, employee relations, budgeting, fiscal and business administration, or administrative planning and analysis. Experience must be focused on the planning, developing, oversight, coordination, or operation of programs.

NOTE: We unfortunately cannot use PCO/PATT scores to appoint candidates to this position.

Duties Description Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Monitor and update Division of Prevention and Problem Gambling Services website, Division mailboxes and prevention related requests
• Enhance and monitor Prevention webpages to include problem gambling prevention strategies and website development
• Assist with development, monitoring, and implementation of public awareness campaigns for substance use and problem gambling prevention services
• Assist in substance use and problem gambling prevention providers’ efforts to achieve community goals, implement workplans, and deliver prevention services
• Coordinate receipt of Division reports from funded vendors
• Review invoices for accuracy and submit for approval
• Other related duties as assigned.

Grade 18 - $60,069 – $76,387
Trainee 1 - $45,617 - $58,374
Trainee 2 - $48,237 - $61,575
(2-year traineeship leading to a Grade 18)
