Minimum Qualifications Seven years of experience** in equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, or human rights; OR one year of State service in an equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, minority business, employment compliance, human resources, or training position allocated at or above Grade 18.
** Qualifying experience includes working with organizations concerned with equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, civil rights, minority business development, or similar programs; or in recruiting, training, and upgrading the educational and job qualifications of protected class members.
Substitutions: An associate’s degree may substitute for two years of experience; bachelor’s degree for four years; and J.D. or master’s degree for five years.
Duties Description The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) is offering a great opportunity for the right candidate to play a key role in an exciting transformational period for the agency. The Equal Opportunity Specialist 2 will serve on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team in shaping the agency’s five-year Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) plan and in implementing the plan by; 1) developing strategic leaders who value, prioritize, and implement the tenets of the plan; 2) by recruiting and retaining talent that advances the diversity of the workforce to become more reflective of the identity, culture, languages, and abilities of the populations that OPRHP serves; 3) by expanding employee engagement in diversity and inclusion practices to ensure a safe and welcoming work environment, and; 4) creating a welcoming environment for all New York State residents and visitors by ensuring the equitable provision of recreational and interpretation opportunities.
The Equal Opportunity Specialist 2 will also serve as the Designee for Reasonable Accommodations, reviewing and making determinations on all requests for reasonable and religious accommodations from employees and/or applicants with disabilities or pregnancy-related conditions as required under the American with Disabilities Act and Human Rights Law.
Additional Comments Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must
Occasional travel is required
Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and experience with the reasonable accommodation process is preferred
Knowledge of virtual presentation platforms is preferred
Ability to analyze workforce data using Excel or similar computer programs a plus!
Bi-lingual ability, verbally and / or in writing, a plus!
