Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have either a high school diploma or a High School Equivalency diploma.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to employees who have experience working in a clerical office setting.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) is seeking candidates for a Support Services Assistant position in the Brooklyn District Office. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for assisting a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC). Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist the VRC by reading materials aloud;
• Manipulate file folders physically;
• Learn new computer data systems, as needed;
• Read information from electronic case files, as needed;
• Paste information into electronic case files, as instructed;
• Deliver files and worksheets;
• Answer telephone calls, take messages, and forward calls as needed;
• Enter hours in employee’s timesheet, as instructed; and
• Perform other routine clerical duties, as assigned.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a temporary, hourly appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This appointment is contingent upon the continued employment of the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to whom assistance is being provided. Regular statewide travel may be required.
