Minimum Qualifications In order to be considered for appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

Duties Description Duties of the Environmental Specialists 1 include, but are not limited to the following:

Performing technical analysis, research, and training related to the interaction of the State's environment and the State's transportation network and transportation projects; Analyzing various environmental concerns such as natural resources and historic and archaeological resources, air quality, traffic noise, ecology, threatened and endangered species, among others; Ensuring compliance with NEPA and SEQR determinations; Developing policy and procedures for a variety of environmental issues; Providing technical expertise on environmental matters to other staff and coordinating with Federal, State and Local agencies to obtain environmental permits and approvals. Environmental Specialists 1 will prepare written materials- including reports- and provide recommendations and will review and provide comments on written materials prepared by others.

Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System (ICS) to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations
