Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two-year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.

*Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific class room instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.

Duties Description Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor 3, the Trades Specialist (Electrician) will:
• Perform journey-level electrical work and frequently supervise others in repair, maintenance, and installation of electrical systems and equipment.
• Read circuit diagrams, architectural blueprints, and generator and motor diagrams as well as use the tools, equipment, and materials of the electrical trade (including metering devices).
• Complete diagnosis and repair of electrical system problems, replacement of defective wiring and/or fuse/breakers, plan and install new wiring layouts and breaker boxes as well as installation of lighting systems.
• Complete repair, maintenance and installation of electrical systems and equipment such as electric motors, generators, transformers, switches, alarm systems controls, and other electrical equipment as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver's license as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to work from heights and be able to follow written direction, record and document required information, and communicate effectively.
• Must be able to pass a physical for respirator use and have knowledge of good safety practices.
• Must possess a working knowledge of electrical theory, practices, techniques, mathematics, electrical standards and code regulations as they apply to the electrical trade in both residential and commercial settings.
• Experience with primary distribution systems (both overhead and underground) is preferred.

PAY: $44,354 annually (plus $1,513 location pay)
