Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences and three years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field.

Substitutions: master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, and Ph.D. in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Licensed clinical laboratory technologist with work experience in clinical laboratory sciences with specialization in immunohematology. Experience performing the analysis of scientific data, preparing reports summarizing scientific findings, policies and procedures. A familiarity with regulatory oversight programs, blood bank operations and excellent written and communication skills. AABB/ASCP certification as a Specialist in Blood Bank Technology (SBB) preferred.

Duties Description The Research Scientist 2 will be part of a technically skilled team working in the Wadsworth Center’s Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program. This program ensures that clinical laboratories and blood banks comply with all regulatory requirements. The incumbent will provide technical expertise in transfusion service, blood collection and immunohematology testing including the review of findings of blood bank surveys and plans of correction for deficiencies. The incumbent will also assist in the investigation of blood transfusion-related incidents, review application materials, review policies and procedures prepared by regulated facilities, prepare guidance documents and monitor compliance of facilities.
