Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
• One year of practical experience in performing general construction or maintenance tasks.
• Must possess a valid minimum Class B New York State Commercial Driver’s License without an air brake restriction and a tanker endorsement at the time of appointment.
• Must possess one year of verifiable commercial vehicle driving experience.
• Must possess a category 3A New York State pesticide technician license by the time of appointment.
• Must become a fully-certified pesticide applicator within one year of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred candidate would have experience working in a grounds department in an institutional (campus) setting.
Duties Description Position Summary:
You will be responsible for completing the tasks listed below as a Facility Operations Assistant 2 in Facilities Campus Operations at The University at Buffalo:
• Supervise and assist as needed employees in various labor classes to perform work within the Grounds Department.
• In this position the individual may oversee a crew consisting of Motor Vehicle Operators (SG-7), Laborers (SG-6), student employees, part-time staff, and other staff as required.
• Tasks within the department consist, but are not limited to:
• materials recycling
• garbage collection
• street sweeping
• utility parking and storage lots
• equipment operation
• athletic field maintenance
• special events
• moving services
• snow and ice removal
• and other duties as assigned
• Incumbent must be able to:
• supervise
• organize
• schedule and assign work within their team
• provide clear and concise instructions
• train staff
• order materials
• produce detailed and comprehensive written activity reports.
• Candidates must be physically able to withstand medium to heavy lifting involving frequent exposure to all types of weather conditions and must be willing to work overtime.
• Candidate will assist the grounds crew with snow and ice removal and assist with various campus special events and moving jobs as needed.
