Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

Duties Description Assist with the operation and maintenance of DEC facilities, including buildings, wildlife management areas, fishing access sites, and state forests. Will be required to operate light and heavy equipment and power tools safely and efficiently. Will perform carpentry, plumbing, and other skilled trades as needed. This position supervises junior seasonal staff on larger maintenance and construction projects.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Overnight and overtime travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction. Possession of a Class B CDL at time of hire is preferred. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration through 03/31/2023. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to date listed. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at interview.
