Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description The duties for this position include assisting the county biologist with biological surveys, inventories, pelt sealing, duck banding, deer and beaver property damage assessments, land management and ecological restoration thru invasive species removal, emergency wildlife response, data collection and disease surveillance. Incumbent will do site visits to assist landowners with deer and beaver damage permits, and assess properties applying for the deer management assistance program. Also, will respond to and investigate bear damage incidents and, infrequently, potential trapping and removal; and will maintain a database of wildlife damage and incident event details. During the season, incumbent will visit deer cutters to gather biological data and disease samples from hunter harvested deer. Duties also include assisting with T&E wildlife species monitoring, providing the public technical assistance via site visits and phone calls, and assisting with the management of state lands. May occasionally have to perform wildlife euthanasia when necessary.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel, Overtime and overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly position with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2023. Program needs and/or funding will determine the actual work percentage and termination date of the position. Actual work schedule and duties may vary and will be discussed at interview.
