Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: seven years of experience managing security services within a facility operating in a regulatory environment, such as a public health laboratory, energy facility, or military base setting. One year of the experience must have included supervision of security operation staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing security and emergency service programs within a highly regulated environment. Experience supervising uniformed security officers staffed to provide around the clock coverage. Federal or State certification related to either or both Incident Command or Emergency Management. Experience and certification in conducting the Security Guard Training Program (SGTP) is necessary for meeting the licensing requirements for security staff. Strong leadership skills are essential.
Duties Description The Laboratory Security Specialist will be responsible for implementing comprehensive security and emergency service plans for Wadsworth Center facilities. Duties include recommending improvements and modifications to protocols, instructions, policies, and procedures including but not limited to developing, reviewing, tracking, testing, resolving, and revising security plans and operations to ensure compliance with appropriate laws, rules and regulations, and conformance with current security practices. The incumbent will establish emergency protocols for critical incidents or other crises; initiate internal controls and periodic testing of such measures; and train security units in their responsibilities in crisis situations. The Laboratory Security Specialist will coordinate with external first response agencies, as required, in resolving security and emergency matters regarding customers, employees and property, and will be responsible for development and implementation of in-house training for all security staff, as well as arranging for specialized security training by vendors to ensure that staff continue to meet Security Guard registration requirements. This position will also include a full range of supervisory responsibilities, including oversight of security officers, preparing performance programs and evaluations, and scheduling.
Additional Comments Permanent, full-time appointment. Candidates must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter. This position requires a satisfactory background check. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved in these positions, candidates who accept appointment may be required to wear personal protective equipment, undergo pre-employment and periodic health evaluations, and receive specific immunizations.
