Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Non-competitive four years of full-time experience in carpentry under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in carpentry at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License.
OPERATIONAL NEEDS: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. This is a full time position based on a 40 hour workweek. May be required to work overtime based on operational needs. Overnight travel to regional campuses may be required. Job requirements include:
Knowledge of the various tools, machines, equipment, materials, codes and accepted practices used in the carpentry trade
Ability to plan and layout carpentry work, read, interpret and work from plans, diagrams and specifications
Ability to estimate labor and material requirements of carpentry work
Ability to maintain accurate and timely records
Ability to communicate for the purpose of exchanging information
Ability to train and supervise others
Must be able to perform work requiring precision and attention to detail
Must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position such as climbing ladders, bending, some moderate to heavy lifting
Duties Description Perform journey level tradesperson work, including planning, layout and supervision, in the carpentry trade. Activities and responsibilities will include:
Install and repair wooden structures such as roof framing, rafters, partitions, joists and stud work.
Design and install cabinets, shelving, fitted furniture, artwork frames, drywall and insulation.
Perform door and frame installations and fittings, including door handles, locks hinges and closures.
Install glass and repair door and widow components and hardware.
Build form and assists in the placement of concrete.
Selecting lumber by size and strength to suit each job, sourcing wood and materials to suit the customers budget and style. to
Install and modifies doors and all associated hardware, including lock sets, exit devices, hinges and weather stripping
Calculate material needs required for a job.
Work with customers, suppliers, professional staff, architects and engineers and other trades as required for each job.
May supervise semi-skilled and unskilled employees
Read construction drawings and designs work to specifications prepared by other construction professional, architects, supervisor and building code requirements.
Consult with other college staff and consultants relative to the selection and specification of door and window hardware and security systems during the design and development of construction projects
