Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Two years' experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, or recreational facility; OR two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson, or completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school course.
Duties Description Under the direction of higher-level staff, the incumbent will be involved in every aspect of site maintenance. The incumbent will perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in electrical, carpentry, painting and motor equipment repair in the maintenance of the Academy's 34 acres of grounds, including the antiquated physical plants, buildings, facilities and infrastructure (parking lots, maintenance shops, ball fields, dining room, gymnasium, kitchen, dormitory rooms, class rooms, large bathroom and showers areas, adjacent toilet/showers trailers requiring regular flushing of holding tanks, laundry equipment, storage buildings, water towers and well-fed domestic water system, pumps, water chlorination and softener, sewer and waste water systems and maintenance building, HVAC building, and electrical and mechanical rooms). The incumbent will use a variety of power tools and equipment, operate trucks, dump trucks, and bucket/forklift/backhoe tractor. The incumbent will perform mowing, weed whacking, and snow removal and must be capable of operating and performing routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, line trimmers, and chainsaws.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
Must successfully pass a background check.
Must be able to work in a para-military training environment.
Must be able to work independently.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License as a term and condition of employment.
Must be able to perform medium to heavy labor as needed.
Must be able to follow written direction, record and document required information, communicate effectively and have organizational skills.
Must comprehend and understand safety and code regulations on all aspects of operation.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, may be called in for emergency work on weekends.
