Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Qualifications for this position are as follows:
• A minimum of five (5) years of post-graduate civil litigation experience, including engaging in discovery and motion practice;
• Prior litigation and trial experience is preferred;
• Excellent legal research, legal writing, editing, analytical and oral advocacy skills;
• Strong organizational, interpersonal communication, problem solving and teamwork skills;
• A demonstrated commitment to public service; and
• Fluency in a second language is a plus but not required.
Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
Duties Description The New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a dedicated, creative, and motivated attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the Brooklyn Regional Office. The Brooklyn Regional Office conducts investigations and litigation covering a broad range of affirmative matters in the areas of social and economic justice, including consumer frauds, civil rights, labor law and environmental law protecting the interests of the most vulnerable New Yorkers. The AAG will manage their own investigations and cases in all phases of affirmative litigation, from commencement through trial, including interviewing witnesses, analyzing data and documents, taking subpoena hearings and depositions, drafting pleadings and legal briefs, arguing motions and negotiating settlements. Additional duties include coordinating and making presentations at community and intergovernmental outreach events on a wide variety of issues and preparing legislative proposals and reports.
