Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Eligible list: Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service Eligible List, Professional Careers Opportunity (PCO) or OPWDD's Central Office Public Administration Traineeship Transition (PATT). Appointment will be made at the traineeship level.


OR

Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.

The position may be filled at the Training Specialist Trainee 1 level equated to SG-13 ($46,529), Training Specialist Trainee 2 level equated to SG-14 ($49,202) or full performance Training Specialist 1 SG-18 ($61,270), based on education and experience. Candidates hired at the trainee level will be advanced to the full performance Training Specialist 1 SG-18 following the successful completion of the traineeship.

Duties Description The Talent Development & Training Unit plays an integral role within the OPWDD framework. The unit provides staff with the necessary training and development activities needed to perform their jobs with the highest level of effectiveness and efficiency. Talent Development & Training staff work toward the goal of ensuring that all OPWDD employees have the skills and supports they need to help individuals with developmental disabilities live richer lives.
-Develop training programs to meet identified needs by determining course content and method of presentation and obtaining training materials.
-Conduct research to ensure that the most recent training trends, State policies/procedures and OPWDD specific training needs are current.
-Conduct an analysis of the current training programs, identify improvements and coordinate enhancements.
-Update training manuals as needed.
-Work with subject matter experts to update annual refresher training.
-Provide customer service for SLMS learners and program areas.
-Obtain instructor certification in Positive Relationships Offer More Opportunities to Everyone (PROMOTE) training.
-Obtain instructor certification in supervisory training programs.
-Provide statewide direct training in PROMOTE to staff during New Employee Orientation and refreshers.
-Participate in planning and review of PROMOTE schedule and compliance data.
-Develop announcements to inform employees and program managers of available training and educational opportunities.
-Participate in inter-agency committees and special projects as needed
