Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have permanent status as a Research Scientist 4 (SG-27) and be interested in transfer; OR bachelor's degree and give years of professions research experience in an appropriate field. A master's degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience.
Examples of acceptable degree fields are Epidemiology, Sociology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Biology, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Health Administration, Addiction Studies, Education, Human Services and other related field.
Duties Description The Research Scientist 4 position in the Division of Prevention and Problem Gambling Services will have direct oversight of primary prevention services aligned with the SAMHSA strategic prevention framework.
The incumbent will:
• Provide scientific oversight to statewide prevention initiatives and assist in supporting NYS prevention evidence-based practices and strategies.
• Supervise a team of research scientists who provide substance use/misuse prevention science, program evaluation, and data analyses expertise to the prevention field as well as review knowledge products or guidance materials for scientific merit/accuracy.
• Work closely with other OASAS divisions and units in the agency to coordinate existing and new prevention services in the continuum of prevention, treatment, and recovery services.
• Oversee program development in partnership with other state and public sector agencies. This includes oversight of contract management, technical assistance and training to existing and new providers and other State agencies.
• Supervise the development of needs assessment, policy, and protocols for prevention service delivery that may include developing subject matter content in procurements, maintaining the NYS Evidence-Based Registry and Promising Practice Program list and media components for Environmental Change Strategies, etc.
• Work in conjunction with other staff in the Division of Prevention and Problem Gambling Services, the Division of Data Management, Research, and Planning (DMRP) and other divisions.
• Perform other duties as needed.
