Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Six years’ experience in planning, coordinating, directing, and supervising the maintenance of a golf course and adjoining grounds. College education in turf agronomy, golf course maintenance or equivalent may be substituted for up to four years’ experience on a year-for-year basis. Training in turf management may be substituted for up to two years’ experience at the rate of 20 Continuing Education Units (CEU) equal to one year of education (10 contract hours of training = 1 CEU). A maximum of four years of education/training may be substituted for experience.

It is the responsibility of each applicant to accurately describe their experience and demonstrate that they meet minimum qualifications and agency needs.

Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level personnel, the Golf Course Superintendent 2 manages three, 9-hole golf courses at Sunken Meadow State Park. Duties include but are not limited to:

•Implement fertilizer, pesticide and seeding programs for the golf course;
•Work with other supervisors and golf course superintendent(s) to plan daily maintenance activities as well as long-range projects;
•Plan short and long-range projects to improve condition of the golf course/facility e.g., drainage, sod and sand trap projects;
•Plan and supervise work crews’ daily assignments;
•Schedule employees to ensure all shifts are covered;
•Apply fertilizer and pesticides according to supervisor’s instructions, product label instructions and DEC regulations.
•Make recommendations regarding operating times and clubhouse operations.
•Respond to customer concerns as needed.
•Make recommendations for equipment needs and purchases.
•Make recommendations for capital improvements on golf course.
•Perform purchasing and procurement duties for supplies as needed.
•Perform subordinate performance evaluations and reviews as needed.
•Coordinate and submit maintenance work orders as needed such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, etc.

OPERATING NEEDS: Applicants must be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions, be physically able to move equipment and materials of various sizes and perform mathematical calculations.
NOTE: Selected Candidate must possess and maintain a New York State Driver’s License by date of appointment as a term and condition of employment.
• Selected candidate must possess and maintain a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Pesticide Technician Certification Category/Sub-Category 3A or 3B within one (1) year of appointment as a term and condition of employment.

The posted hiring rate is the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PEF Grade 22 ($75,340) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,026) The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($95,392) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,026)
