Minimum Qualifications Licensed Psychologist
Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list for this title.

OR for Transfer Opportunity:

Candidates must have one year of permanent service as a Licensed Psychologist and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be in a title deemed appropriate for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. In addition, candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice psychology in New York State.

Temporary Appointment:

Licensed Psychologist is a continuous recruitment examination. Candidates who are not currently on the eligible list may apply for this position and if appointed, will receive a temporary appointment. To qualify, candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice psychology in New York State. To apply for this examination, candidates must submit a completed NYS-APP form with their resume and cover letter. A NYS-APP form can be obtained by emailing NYS Department of Civil Service: examinfo@cs.ny.gov.

Note: Candidates appointed temporary must receive a score that is reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who are found not qualified or who do not receive a reachable score may not be retained.

Duties Description Positions in this title series provide professional psychological services to individuals residing and receiving services in New York State-operated, certified, or licensed programs and facilities under the supervision of a licensed psychologist or other appropriate licensed clinician.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participate as a member of the Psychology Department. This includes attending meetings and performing special assignments, as directed, such as assisting with committee functions or teaching specialized courses.
• Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team and attend meetings to develop comprehensive plans to promote independence
• Provide psychological services to individuals who have developmental disabilities such as but not limited to:
o Perform psychological assessments such as intelligence testing, adaptive behavior, functional behavioral assessments, risk assessments, assessments of capacity, substantial diminution
o Prepare and present individualized plans to various review committees (Human Rights Committee, Informed Consent Committee) to seek approval for restrictive interventions
o Develop treatment plans (i.e., behavior support plans) to reduce challenging behaviors and increase replacement behaviors/coping skills
o Train staff regarding individual and general strategies
? to decrease challenging behaviors and increase prosocial behaviors
o Review and analyze data; develop progress notes
o Provide individual and group counseling
o Review psychotropic medications with the psychiatrist and complete consults prior to each psychiatric visit
o Conduct any other duties related to psychology.
As a Licensed Psychologist, you would supervise and/or provide professional psychological services. In addition to assessment and treatment, your duties may include:

• Clinical leadership.
• Program Management.
• Psychological services requiring expertise in neuropsychology, child and adolescent psychology, sex offense treatment.
• Forensic or court ordered assessment, treatment and expert testimony.
• Specialized assessment (functional, personality, risk, competency, vocational, education).
• Design and application of behavioral technology and other specialized psychological interventions.
• Crisis intervention.
• Training.
• Peer review.
