Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1; OR New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above Grade 20 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law by meeting the following Provisional Open Competitive minimum qualifications: You must be a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. AND you must have two years of full-time professional experience, after successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians, in the field of nutrition or dietetics. Substitution: A Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Health, Public Health, Public Administration, Health (Care/Services) Administration, Nutrition Education, Health Education, Community Health, Health Care Policy and Management, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work/Social Welfare, Human and Social Services, Early Childhood Education, or Public Policy may be substituted for one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will have progressively responsible professional work experience in a large, multi-faceted public health nutrition program and will possess excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills. The candidate will also have a strong command of public health as it relates to breastfeeding and nutrition, and the ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities. Experience working with marginalized communities specifically of color or with intersectional identities that impact health and health outcomes. Training in racial justice and health equity.
Duties Description The Public Health Nutritionist 1 (PHN1) will provide nutrition expertise for the State Physical Activity and Nutrition and the Creating Breastfeeding Friendly Communities initiatives. The PHN1 will play an integral role, providing subject matter expertise for the team of public health professionals who collectively address the obesity epidemic In New York State. Duties include: implement state nutrition programs and policies; supervise state and federally funded nutrition programs and contractors to ensure objectives are being met; provide nutrition training and technical assistance to local contractors and partner; provide nutrition training and technical assistance to local contractors and partners; coordinate appropriate nutrition activities for programs with related State agencies, organizations, and local agencies; perform other duties as assigned.

Permanent or provisional, full-time, appointment. Transfer candidates may be asked for a Social Security Number to verify your transfer eligibility. Provisional appointees will need to take the next Civil Service Public Health Nutritionist 1 (G22) examination and be eligible for immediate appointment from the resulting eligible list in order to maintain employment.
