Minimum Qualifications Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as Laboratory Specialist 1(G18), Laboratory Specialist Trainee 1 (NS) or Laboratory Specialist Trainee 2 (NS), OR a New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a title at or above G11 and determined to be eligible for transfer to Laboratory Specialist 1 (G18), Laboratory Specialist Trainee 1(NS), or Laboratory Specialist Trainee 2 (NS) under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Public Candidates: Active list candidate on the New York State Department of Civil Service's Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) select eligible list #50-002 with a score of 100.0 or above OR a qualified 55B/C candidate in possession of a specialized bachelor's or higher degree.


Preferred Qualifications: Laboratory experience with environmental sample preparation techniques including liquid-liquid and solid phase extraction. Strong organizational and record keeping skills with attention to detail.

Duties Description Prepare various environmental samples using approved protocols (Standard Operating Procedures). Process samples for analysis using solid-phase extraction. Prepare standards and other reagents as needed. Maintain appropriate quality assurance activities, documentation, and perform other general laboratory maintenance tasks. With appropriate experience and/or training, may assist in use of LC-MS/MS instrumentation (start-up, optimization, performance checks, calibration, etc.), process raw instrument data and report results.

Additional Comments Dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks may be required. Additionally, exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position; the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations.

Contingent-Permanent, competitive full-time. Two year traineeship leading to a G18. Transfer candidates may be asked for SSN to verify title history and eligibility.
