Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Open Competitive Minimum Qualifications: 12 months as an Assistant Hearing Officer, or Admission to the NYS Bar and 24 months of subsequent satisfactory legal experience in the trial of issues in courts of record or in the conduct or trial of adversary proceedings, quasi-judicial in nature, before a governmental department or agency. This position may also be filled at the Assistant Attorney levels 1-2 or Assistant Hearing Officer based dependent upon Law school graduation and NYS Bar Admission status as defined on exam announcement: https://www.cs.ny.gov/examannouncements/announcements/oc-cr/20-131.cfm

Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will have experience working as counsel for public health insurance programs and/or with a legal services organization specializing in health law, in addition to experience in administrative law hearings.

Duties Description Reporting to a Supervising Hearing Officer, the incumbent will work closely with appeals staff to ensure that individuals, employers, employees and health plans receive prompt response to complaints and appeals. As an appeals adjudicator for the NY State of Health (Marketplace), the incumbent of this position will be responsible for conducting hearings arising from appeals of eligibility determinations regarding eligibility for health insurance and financial assistance as well as conducting legal research and drafting decisions resulting from those hearings. Incumbent will also be responsible for other projects as assigned.
