Minimum Qualifications Permanent/Provisional
Permanent Qualifications: Reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list.
Provisional Qualifications: Possession of a license and current registration to practice dental hygiene in New York State
Transfer Qualifications: Candidates must be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law by way of current permanent status in a title deemed comparable to Dental Hygienist. List of titles can be found at https://careermobilityoffice.cs.ny.gov
* Incumbents of positions that perform sterilization duties may be required to possess current certification by a nationally accredited central sterile technician credentialing organization as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician, or a substantially equivalent credential.
Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION: Provides dental supportive services under a licensed dentist’s direct supervision for individuals in the care of Taconic OPWDD. This position will assist dentists in their practice by performing preventive and therapeutic treatment procedures and by instructing individuals in oral selfcare techniques.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Takes medical history and charts dental caries.
• Places and exposes sensors to take diagnostic dental X-ray images and incorporates them in a practice management/imaging program.
• Makes use of a practice management/imaging program to input/output information.
• Removes deposits and stains from the exposed surfaces of the teeth and applies topical agents for dental treatment.
• Removes cement, places, or removes rubber dam, removes sutures, and places matrix band.
• Has a New York State certificate to administer and monitor local infiltration anesthesia and nitrous oxide analgesia.
• Performs topical medication, fluoride, and anesthetic applications.
• Polishes teeth, including existing restorations.
• Takes impressions for study casts.
• Places and removes temporary restorations.
• Teaches proper hygiene techniques for teeth and gums and develops individual at-home oral hygiene programs.
• May perform all services properly performed by a Dental Assistant
Additional Comments *Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of statutory hiring rate ($46,146) and Mid-Hudson Adjustment ($1,513). The Mid-Hudson Adjustment ($1,513) is also added to job rate ($56,324)
