Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in plumbing under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in plumbing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of a two-year plumbing training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. These positions are not tenure-bearing.

These Trades Specialists (Plumber & Steamfitter) positions are in the non-competitive jurisdictional class. Section 42(1) of the Civil Service Law provides that the Non-competitive Class includes positions for which the Civil Service Commission finds it is not practicable to ascertain the merit and fitness of applicants by competitive examination. Appointments may be made to candidates who meet the minimum qualifications.

Duties Description The Trades Specialists (Plumber & Steamfitter) will perform skilled journey-level plumbing and steamfitting work in the installation, alteration, and repair of pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, ventilating, heating control, water, and drainage systems according to specification and plumbing codes at the New York State Fairgrounds.

Position will run May through November 2023.

The New York State Fair and Fairgrounds are used to promote and highlight New York State and its agriculture, commerce, arts, and sciences to residents of the State of New York.
