Job Specifics

Duties Description The Translator Spanish Language serves as a member of the facility’s multidisciplinary treatment team and works under the supervision of a qualified health professional. Incumbents will communicate ideas using proper syntax and grammar; accurately and precisely edit materials; analyze and research abstract pertinent material and may coordinate the translation of English/Spanish with other State and local agencies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Translate official, technical, medical and legal documents, certificates, letters and other written material, and audio recordings from Spanish to English and/or Spanish to English.
• Translate, edit, and proofread rules, regulations and policy brochures for use by patients, family and employees.
• Translate correspondence, letters, notes and conversations between patients, their families and health care providers.
• Translate research documents, including surveys, questionnaires, interviews and patient and employee satisfaction surveys.
• May use translation skills to assist people filling out applications, forms and other documents.
• May interpret for clinical staff conducting clinical evaluations to assist them in reaching diagnoses, treatment plans and medication interventions.
• May interpret details of patient treatment, clinical staff instructions for treatment planning, medication administration, education and discharge planning to patients, families and caregivers. This may include translating and interpreting complex and confidential medical and mental health information.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Spanish; or a bachelor’s degree in any field supplemented by 12 credit hours in Spanish and one year of full-time experience translating Spanish to English and from English to Spanish.
Candidates must be fluent in reading, writing and speaking Spanish; a language proficiency test will be administered.

Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC) that includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
