Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent, labor-class service as a Cleaner.
Labor Class Appointment: Candidates must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor as well as understand and carry out written or oral instructions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference may be given to applicants who have:
• Experience working with deaf students; and
• The ability to communicate through ASL/Sign Language
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Cleaner position at the New York State School for the Deaf. Duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Wash floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows from the inside and outside;
• Clean and scrub all areas of lavatories and locker rooms, such as sinks, urinals, toilets, showers, and drains;
• Move furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning activities, and set up for meetings or special events;
• Empty trash, recyclables, and waste, in accordance with cleaning schedule;
• Remove snow and salt walkways, clean sidewalks, yards, drives, and mow lawns;
• Strip and wax floors;
• Vacuum and shampoo carpets;
• Dust assigned areas; and
• Provide coverage of alternate Cleaner shifts on an as-needed basis.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent-permanent 12-month appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. Fees associated with fingerprinting do not apply if applicant’s fingerprints exist in the NYS TEACH System. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday through Friday, 11:00am to 7:30pm which includes a half hour un-paid lunch period. The incumbent of this positions may be required to cover alternate shifts on an as needed basis, depending on the needs of the facility.
Employees of The New York State Education Department who are currently working either 50% or 100% in a cleaner position and are interested in this position MUST apply to the position as outlined in the Application section of this flyer.
This position leads to a maximum salary of $41,328 based on annual performance advances.
