Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Are you interested in starting or advancing your psychology career with New York State? Central New York is recruiting for a psychologist 1 to provide professional psychological services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist to individuals with mental illness. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program as a Psychologist 1 if they have:
• Master’s degree in psychology that prepared graduates for positions treating individuals in clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school settings OR
• Completion of graduate coursework in a qualifying doctoral program in psychology that would be the equivalent required for conferral of a master’s degree in psychology and

AND

• 2 years of appropriately supervised post-master’s clinical psychology experience in a clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school setting where your primary duties were providing psychological services OR
• Fieldwork assignment as part of the qualifying master’s degree in psychology program

Substitutions

Doctoral degree in a clinical field of psychology and 1 year of qualifying experience may be substituted for both the education and experience requirements.

Clinical psychology practicum, externship, or fieldwork assignment, that was completed as part of a qualifying Master of Psychology degree, may be substituted for 1 year of the required experience.

Certificate of advanced study in a clinical field of psychology or school psychology may be substituted for 1 year of required experience.

OR

Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Psychologist 1 eligible list.

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Duties Description As a Psychologist 1 at Central New York Psychiatric Center, your duties will include:
• Administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological tests.
• Completing behavioral assessments.
• Leading and participating in individual, family, and/or group counseling sessions.

NOTE:
1. In order to be eligible for appointment and to maintain employment, you cannot be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of the Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program). If you are appointed and subsequently listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of these lists (or excluded from any other Federal or federally assisted program), you may be terminated from your employment.

2. If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
