Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
For appointment via NY HELPS:
- A bachelor’s degree in media, new media, English, communications, journalism, broadcasting, public relations, films, TV productions, or digital marketing AND two years of experience in public or governmental relations, and/or in writing or producing content for various media; OR
- A master’s degree in media, new media, English, communications, journalism, broadcasting, public relations, films, TV productions, or digital marketing AND one year of experience in public or governmental relations, and/or in writing or producing content for various media; OR
- Six years of the experience described above; OR
- One year of permanent or non-competitive service as:
A: Public Information Specialist; OR
B: Multimedia Production Technician, Graphic Designer 1, or Photographer 2.
For appointment via transfer:
One year of permanent, competitive class service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 or Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. Eligible titles include, but aren’t limited to: Child Support Specialist 1, Housing Specialist 1, Program Outreach Specialist 1.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Proficiency in major platforms (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube).
• Knowledge of best practices, analytics, targeted advertising and reporting.
• Experience with management tools.
• Strong copywriting and editing abilities.
• Exceptional English grammar and spelling.
• Excellent judgement on tone and brand appropriateness, including keen awareness of current events and appropriateness of content.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Two years of experience in social media, content creation or digital marketing (Government or insurance experience ideal).
• Fluent in Spanish language.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Duties Description Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Reporting directly to the Deputy Communications Director, the Social Media Manager & Digital Coordinator will work closely with NYSIF’s creative content management team updating and creating content across multiple social media channels and platforms.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with NYSIF’s messaging across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter).
• Under the direction of the Deputy Communications Director, manage and curate NYSIF’s social media presence through content creation; create and post engaging content and videos across various social media platforms.
• Collaborate with graphic designers and multimedia specialist to develop content for social media posts, event invitations, and marketing materials.
• Monitor inquiries received through social media channels.
• Capture, analyze and report out on social and digital media metrics.
• Provide data analytics and reports to Executive level staff and Department Heads.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
