BASIC FUNCTION:
Work alongside a Senior Director or Vice President of Industry Development to provide superior customer service to one or more assigned strategic industries. This customer facing position will build and maintain relationships with key trade associations and major employers within these industries. The Manager of Industry Development will take a role in originating job creating projects by providing thorough responses to company’s requests for information, including proposed project sites, workforce data, and incentives. This company attraction process will also involve the coordination of site tours across the state in conjunction with regional and local partners. The Manager of Industry Development will be proactive in industry attraction by developing and maintaining marketing materials as well as organizing and attending in person conferences and trade shows. This position will make an impact in communities statewide by creating family sustaining jobs.
WORK PERFORMED:
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders including private industry, trade organizations, regional economic development organizations, property owners, and more.
• Identify, analyze, and manage potential expansion, retention, and attraction projects.
• Liaise with other government and non-government entities to expedite projects and initiatives.
• Represent ESD at industry functions, conferences, and events, and make presentations as necessary.
• Policy development and preparation of recommendations for legislative action.
• Maintain complete and accurate data and files on prospects, projects, and initiatives.
• Lead and participate in project teams consisting of ESD staff and others in government and the private sector.
• Present recommendations before a review committee.
• Manage the industry contact inbox and organization of incoming inquiries.
• Prepare various documents, including project tracking, reports, presentations, briefings, spreadsheets, marketing materials and other items as needed.
• Coordinate marketing activities including assisting in maintenance of the Clean Tech and Renewable Energy industry website, printed and digital collateral, and support preparation of press releases.
• Occasional travel is needed to support company attraction and marketing initiatives.
• Assist in other various projects as directed by Industry Directors and department SVP.
• Position expected to work onsite and/or remote consistent with NYS and ESD guidelines and needs.
Minimum Qualifications Education Level Required: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, urban planning or related field and 1 year of public facing work experience.
Relevant Experience Required: Public facing experience should be in economic development, sales, real estate, marketing, real estate development, government, business planning, public and private financing programs, consulting, design and construction, or a similar function.
Candidates must possess the ability to prioritize and multitask while delivering superior customer service. Excellent written and oral communications skills are essential. Proficiency in computer programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge Required: An understanding of the renewable energy industry. Enthusiasm for making a difference in communities across the state by creating family sustaining jobs in a high growth industry. Proficiency with in-person sales and various forms of marketing.
ALTERNATIVE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNAL CANDIDATES: A minimum of five years of satisfactory service in another position with Empire State Development. Up to two years of accredited post-secondary education, or service in the U.S. Military may be substituted for service at ESD.
