Job Specifics

Duties Description This position will supervise a work crew of 4-6 staff; will be required to operate a variety of self-propelled heavy equipment; transport tools, materials and heavy equipment to and from job sites; must have a basic knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of assigned equipment; may be required to assist in a variety of construction trades, including but not limited to masonry, carpentry, and electrical; basic knowledge of the routine repair and maintenance work needed for equipment; will be required to use and operate a variety of hand and power tools; ability to operate assigned machine in a safe and effective manner; must understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform routine repairs and maintenance on equipment; perform medium to heavy physical labor based on priorities set by others and the abilities of individual crew members; orally instruct crew members in the activities and tasks to be performed and answer questions concerning work procedures; provide and explain written guidelines for work if they are available; personally observe work in progress and that which is completed to ensure adherence to instructions, guidelines, and schedules; keep written records of work performed and materials and labor used; estimate and purchase material for assigned projects.

Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no airbrake restriction.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.
Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
