Job Specifics
Duties Description Under the supervision of a Research Scientist, the Assistant Research Scientist will serve an integral role within the Newborn Screening Program Follow-up Unit by performing the critical work of reporting abnormal test results, confirming that the clinicians involved in each case follow-up appropriately and in a timely manner, and that the newborns, who screened positive, receive a diagnosis, and receive treatment, if needed.
Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or related science degree and one year of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field.
Substitution: 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, fulltime. Some travel may be required.
Dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks will be required. Additionally, exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position; the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations.
This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
