BASIC FUNCTION:
The NY Ventures Intern will be integrally involved in investment sourcing activities for the New York State Innovation Venture Capital Fund (NYSIVCF) and the Pre-Seed and Seed Matching Fund (PSSF), which are programs of NY Ventures. The primary focus will be in New York City. The Intern’s primary activities include identification of potential investment opportunities and due diligence support.
This opportunity will give the candidates the opportunity to play a critical role in the investment process by identifying and evaluating companies for investment. The candidates will get hands-on experience and exposure to venture capital investing, diligence and evaluation.
WORK PERFORMED:
The Intern will primarily be responsible for providing support to the NYSIVCF and PSSF staff in sourcing and due diligence. The experience will give the candidates hands-on experience with venture capital sourcing, networking, and due diligence.
Job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
• Gain an understanding of the focus of NY Ventures program and the types of investable opportunities that are of most interest to the team and program.
• Supporting and initiating active deal flow sourcing of new investments, including mapping of company resources, investment opportunities, and more.
• Participating in aspects of the investment due diligence process for fund investments including market sizing and mapping, competitive market identification, industry research, and investment team meeting discussions.
Minimum Qualifications Education level required: Must be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program.
Knowledge Required:
• Strong knowledge and passion for entrepreneurship.
• Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
• Financial acumen and demonstrated experience in research (business, science, or related) preferred.
• Strong writing and research skills.
