Job Specifics

Duties Description The Student Assistant will be assigned to the Sex Offender Registry within the Office of Criminal Justice Records. Duties will include, but will not be limited to:

• Answer the 800 Sex Offender Registry (SOR) phone line:
o Obtain and document contact information for callers prior to research
o Assist callers by searching the Sex Offender Registry for names & identifying data to confirm if subject is, or is not, on the registry
o Provide details to caller following legal requirements when a match is found; and assist offenders, and the general public with all questions related to the Registry

• Verify and update offender address changes:
o Review address, employer, motor vehicle, internet and higher education changes received from offenders
o Update information on SOR database
o Assign offender jurisdictional agency and send appropriate correspondence to agencies advising of changes made
o Update photographs on SOR database upon receipt of LiveScan, eJusticeNY, or manual photo updates, exhibiting care and attention to detail when making updates

• Review submitted materials from daycare providers, camp directors, nursing homes and other volunteer organizations for completeness;

• Enter names and identifying information into the SOR database to confirm if subject is, or is not, on the registry; document findings and communicate results to inquirer; and

• Retrieve, open and sort mail to ensure all documents are received and processed in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications Must be a current student enrolled in a matriculating degree program and have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university.
