Job Specifics

Duties Description This position provides technical support for amphibian and reptile species conservation projects within Region 9. Field work may include some travel and a variable work schedule.

Primary Duties Include:
- Survey for hellbenders, including monitoring of released head-started hellbenders, and assist with hellbender habitat enhancement.
- Survey for Blanding's turtles, spotted turtles, and queensnakes.
- Careful handling of live animals for data collection.
- Work with other wildlife staff and volunteers to organize and coordinate field surveys.
- Clean, maintain, and organize field equipment.
- Enter, compile, and organize data from surveys in Excel, GIS, and Access.
- Contact landowners for permission to access private land.

Additional Duties May Include:
- Assist with other herpetile conservation program and rare aquatic species tasks as needed.
-Responding to public inquiries via phone, email, and at outreach events.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to navigate difficult terrain and in-water stream work. Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule when needed to accommodate field work. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration through 10/31/2025. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview. Good communication, organizational, and computer skills are essential.

Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 10/31/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
