Job Specifics
Duties Description These positions will be responsible for the preparation and painting of numerous internal and external surfaces within and around the campus as directed. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to, preparing and applying protective and decorative coats of paint to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, equipment, guardrails, fences and like surfaces; arranging, assembling and erecting scaffolds and ladders at work site, and placing drop cloths over shrubbery, furniture or floors to avoid paint splattering. Other duties are expected to include moving furniture and moveable equipment from area to be painted, properly preparing surfaces for effective painting, filling cracks, crevices and holes with putty, plaster or other materials, and properly cleaning work area and equipment at the end of each task. The use of appropriate PPE, selecting and safely using the appropriate tools and equipment needed to complete the assigned tasks, and attending job related training will be required. Minimum Qualifications -Must be eligible for permanent appointment to this title pursuant to civil service law.
-Two years of full-time experience in painting work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course in painting at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
-When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Additional Comments
Maintenance & Operations is responsible for processing all work order requests received and handling them accurately and timely. These positions will perform semi-skilled activities in preparing surfaces and applying coats of paint, varnish and other finishes and stains to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces and fixtures of building structures, furniture and equipment. We are part of the Administration & Finance division which provides essential services to our campus, local, state, federal and international customers. We are responsible for human, physical, financial and technical resources. As professionals, we navigate systems in a collaborative and sensitive way to assist the University in achieving its educational mission. The shift for this position is Monday – Friday 6:00am – 2:30pm. This temporary position for the summer is expecting to begin in late May and end in mid-August.
