Job Specifics
Duties Description • Assist with the planning and assignment of daily workload.
• Assist with receiving and distributing materials, publications, and other promotional items.
• Assist with retrieving and delivering product for tenant agencies at offsite locations.
• Process distribution requests.
• Data enter and maintain accountability of warehouse items utilizing the inventory system.
• Perform office support and clerical work such as process written requests, schedule orders, prepare documents and Bills of Lading, manage the shared mailbox, and other related office activities.
• Evaluate the quality, quantity, and timeliness of work.
• Operate Material Handling Equipment, maintain records and perform routine preventative maintenance checks and services.
• Proficiently utilize Microsoft Office Suite and various program specific applications.
• Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Operational Needs:
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required. Occasional operation of a motor vehicle will be required.
• Ability to bend, lift, climb, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
• Ability to lift a minimum 45 pounds.
• Ability to operate a variety of materials handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. Successful completion of OSHA forklift training and certification is required.
• Obtain and maintain certification in CPR and comply with established safety procedures.
• Flexibility to work in environments of fluctuating temperatures including limited periods outside, year-round.
• May be required to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:
Applicants must possess one year experience where most work time is spent performing activities related to mail receipt, mail distribution, storage, and/or stores keeping.
Applicants may be appointed to this position if currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title OR are a current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 7 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES ALONG WITH THE HOURS PER WEEK FOR EACH POSITION LISTED.
Additional Comments *There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
