Job Specifics
Duties Description Assist seasonally, in the monitoring and management of threatened and endangered species. Conduct site surveys, monitor nesting pairs, construct and maintain protective fencing, record relevant data and interact with the public regarding endangered shorebird issues.
Under supervision; issue daily and seasonal permits to hunters accessing state managed lands; take telephone reservations during small game and archery seasons; respond to public requests for information on hunting and wildlife programs; stock pheasants 1-3 nights/week and care for birds daily; collect biological data on harvested deer and issue bonus deer management permits; take CWD samples; record and summarize hunter use figures; post boundaries on state managed lands; perform land management activities including trail maintenance, grassland management and facility maintenance. The Technician in this position would also assist in the regional management of other endangered species, non-game species, game species and nuisance wildlife.
Work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at interview. Weekend and holiday work is required from November through January. The position also requires early morning and evening work.
Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
