Job Specifics
Duties Description The Research Scientist in this position will work within the Bureau of Data Analytics, Research, and Evaluation and will assist in a broad range of research, analysis, reporting, and evaluation activities. The Research Scientist will work under the direction of a senior level research scientist in conducting research to assess the effectiveness of the NYS Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home (MIECHV) Program, an evidence-based home visiting program model, as required under the funding and guidelines of a federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant. The candidate will generate and submit quarterly and annual reports to HRSA, and will assist in all phases of research, including literature reviews, methods development, statistical analysis, data analytics related to data robustness and quality, continuous quality improvement, and the development of written reports and presentation of findings. The Research Scientist will plan and coordinate data collection activities with local MIECHV projects; conduct analyses to measure and track progress toward improvements in selected indicators; develop and produce benchmark reports to monitor, assess and communicate progress toward improvement of the entire MIECHV initiative; help implement a Continuous Quality Improvement plan; and provide technical assistance to MIECHV projects as needed. The Research Scientist will also participate in other bureau and departmental research-related activities and groups.
Minimum Qualifications Assistant Research Scientist (G14): Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related degree and one year of post degree professional research experience in the appropriate field. Thirty graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
Research Scientist 1 (G18): Bachelor's degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related degree and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and one year of post-degree professional research experience in that field.
Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in SAS and/or SQL programming, Tableau, and Microsoft Office software applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word. Work experience or coursework in statistics, health services, or research design. Experience performing research and analyses with large administrative and/or clinical data sets. Experience presenting research findings. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Additional Comments Contingent Permanent, full-time, non-competitive appointment. Appointment level will be determined based on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
