Job Specifics

Duties Description Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Work with the Curator 1, SG-18, on digitization of historic materials including image capture, image editing, creation of master and access files, and the creation of descriptive metadata.
• Assist the curator in creation of accession paperwork and processing of collections.
• Help conduct research regarding New York State history, people, and events.
• Physically handle and assist with collection items using museum best practices.
• Coordinate and create research appointments.
• Assist in conducting routine research on items in the collection.
• Greet and engage with visitors; answer questions and provide information.
• Manage risk to collections on display by monitoring visitor behavior to ensure the protection of museum artifacts.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Must have experience with Microsoft Office programs including Outlook and knowledge of Adobe programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
• Possess a working knowledge of archival best practices.
• Possess a bachelor's degree or some college experience.
