Job Specifics
Duties Description Under the direction of the Navigation Aids crew supervisor, the Buoy Crew Assistant will:
• Assist in maintaining the NY statewide navigable buoy marker system, providing critical safety information to boaters.
• Provide assistance to the crew supervisor in the completion of buoy placements in the spring and removal in late fall.
• Maintain buoys and all equipment needed to haul, place, remove and repair navigational aids for the public waterways in NYS.
Minimum Qualifications There are no minimum qualifications for this title per Civil Service.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
The selected candidate:
• Must be physically able to perform heavy lifting on shore as well as from the platform of a boat.
• Must be able to commit to weekly, mandatory travel to lakes throughout New York State as required.
• The duties of this position as a condition of employment require you to have and maintain a valid drivers’ license that allows you to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Failure to maintain a valid drivers’ license may result in removal from this position.
• Must possess or obtain a New York State Boating Safety Certificate as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be willing to work in a variety of weather conditions and must be prepared to endure boating conditions that can include choppy water as well as cold and wet weather.
• This position requires 50% - 75% travel and will be from April through November 2026.
