Job Specifics
Duties Description This position acts as a working supervisor directing skilled and semi-skilled employees. The incumbent must have knowledge of the carpentry trade and show the ability to plan, coordinate, and participates in the construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of buildings, facilities, and structures. Will be responsible for setting schedules, estimates of project costs and timelines; prepare material lists and requisitions of supplies, tools, and equipment, overseeing all phases of a construction project. Good verbal communication skills and coordination skills are vital in getting plans and design specifications assigned to appropriate staff. Must be able to provide hands on support while providing direction and control during all phases of projects. Provides technical instruction, mentoring, and on-the-job training to subordinate staff and apprentices.
Coordinates carpentry projects with other maintenance trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, masonry, and painting. Maintains records of labor, materials, equipment usage, work orders, and project completion. Must Interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications reviewing concerns with Central Office engineering staff. Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with building codes, agency standards, safety regulations, and quality workmanship. Ensures compliance with OSHA, New York State safety standards, environmental regulations, and agency policies. Responds to emergency maintenance situations and may participate in after-hours or inclement weather response. May oversee contractor work, verify contract compliance, and coordinate projects with engineers, architects, and facility managers.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience as a skilled journey-level carpenter subsequent to the completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
Must possess a valid New York State driver's license.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
