Job Specifics
Duties Description • Provides legal advice and review of the Department’s use of AI and emerging technologies, including compliance with applicable state and federal privacy laws and regulations.
• Analyzes state and federal laws and regulations involving AI and emerging technologies.
• Provides legal guidance to ensure AI and emerging technologies used within the Department comply with applicable privacy, intellectual property, and licensing requirements.
• Provides legal guidance on data privacy legal issues.
• Supervises and provides guidance to Senior Attorneys on legal matters.
• Represents the Department of Health in discussions, agreements, and negotiations with the Executive Chamber, Division of Budget, Legislature, state and federal agencies, and external stakeholders.
• Collaborates with Department program staff on legislative drafting and analysis and the development of statutes and regulations to advance Department priorities within applicable legal parameters.
• Consults with colleagues within the Division of Legal Affairs on matters related to the incumbent’s areas of expertise and provides guidance and education to other attorneys, as necessary.
• Assists with litigation, as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have been admitted to the New York State Bar and must have had four years of experience in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar.
Preferred Qualifications: • Experience or knowledge with legal issues involving artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and data governance
• Knowledge of NYS legislative and regulatory processes
• Strong legal research and legal writing skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Ability to provide clear, consistent legal advice on complex matters
• Ability to work collaboratively with program staff, attorneys, government entities, and outside stakeholders
