Job Specifics

Duties Description The duties of the Trades Generalist will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Assist with inspecting and determining the section’s maintenance needs and make recommendations for repair, materials, and work request priorities.

• Perform repairs in plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and equipment, including setting priorities, requisitioning materials, determining the work to be done, and laying out the work.

• Assist other trades with repairs in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and equipment.

• Plan and lay out construction, repair, and maintenance projects, and have a working knowledge of the tools of the carpentry trade and standard carpentry techniques.

• Use hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment and measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the projects assigned.

• Track supplies and materials to ensure they are used properly.

• Perform general grounds maintenance tasks such as clearing sites, mowing lawns, maintaining roads and sidewalks, snow and ice removal, collection/pick-up of trash and other obstructions.

• Periodic travel may be required to other sections; to attend training; or other requirements related to duties as needed.

• Incumbent may be responsible for supervising others in maintenance, repair, installation and construction activities.

• Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

Employees must possess a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS at the time of appointment & continuously maintain it thereafter or face possible disciplinary action up to & including termination.

Additional Comments Preferred qualification: Proficiency in the plumbing/masonry/carpentry trade.
