Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in New York State AND the ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting of children.

Duties Description The New York State School for the Blind (NYSSB) in Batavia is seeking to fill a temporary Nurse 1 Substitute position. The NYSSB provides educational and residential services to students who are blind and have additional disabilities. Under the direction of the Nurse Administrator 1, major responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide health care to students in the absence of regular staff;
• Perform clinical rounds;
• Record and administer medications promptly;
• Assess health program for service delivery;
• Observe and record symptoms of illness accurately and objectively;
• Treat problems from standing orders;
• Maintain specific health records and reports on each student; and
• Communicate appropriately with students, direct care staff, parents and other health agencies with tact, confidence and in concert with school procedures.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This will be a temporary, hourly position. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval.
