Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Must have a New York State License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse and certification by the New York State Education Department in a specialty area as a Nurse Practitioner Psychiatry.
Requirement for prescribing medication: must meet the current requirements as prescribed by the New York State Board of Nursing.
Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry) serves are a registered professional nurse, certified in the specialty of Psychiatry. As a licensed healthcare professional, they provide services in the diagnoses of illness and in therapeutic and corrective measures and may prescribe drugs, devices, and immunizing agents based on their education and specialized training. They will work independently under their own license in collaboration with a physician, they retain responsibility for professional tasks performed under their scope of practice.
Participation in Administrator on Call (AOC) system is required. Travel is required within the six-county catchment area and occasionally outside the area for administrative meetings and training opportunities. Off hour visits to sites may be required.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops health profiles of individuals under their care. Reviews presenting problems, date of onset, and duration. Obtains health history. Determines the extent of previous treatment modalities for each concern identified. Performs examinations, testing, and review of body systems. Orders routine laboratory tests as indicated by individual’s complaints. Records findings in a systematic and accurate format consistent with DDSOO policies and procedures.
Assesses individual’s psychiatric health and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings. Identifies and develops, or assists in the development of mental health care. Makes appropriate referrals to other healthcare providers, including physicians, for consultation. Collaborates with other health disciplines to ensure continuity of care. Coordinates mental health care and provides psychological support and counseling to individuals about mental health and stabilization.
Evaluates health plans for effectiveness, and institutes necessary adjustments or corrections. Monitors the implementation of prescribed care. Develops and adjusts nursing plan and makes modifications to medically prescribed regimen, in consultation with physician’s as necessary.
Participates in team planning for the provision of services to individuals served. Other duties as assigned.
