Minimum Qualifications Qualifications/Skills:
•Bachelor’s degree in any relevant field required but degree in computer science , information technology or data security or advanced degree preferred;
•Candidates with experience in any of the following areas preferred:
o Programming and web development tools, including JAVA, Python, PHP, SQL and Ruby;
o Linux command line tools and container technology (e.g. Docker);
o Online privacy and data security; and
o Social media research.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills;
•Highly organized, self-directed, and resourceful;
•Personable and positive, with a high level of integrity; and
•Interest in public policy and social/economic justice.

Duties Description The New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG) seeks candidates for a full-time Privacy and Data Security Research Engineer position in New York City. The Research and Analytics Department is part of the Executive Division and works closely with senior staff to support the OAG's major initiatives, investigations, and policy development. The selected candidate will assist the bureau’s attorneys in identifying matters warranting investigation as well as furthering those investigations and prosecutions. Experienced and entry-level applicants are encouraged to apply. We are seeking to fill this position immediately.

The Attorney General is both the “People's Lawyer” and the State's chief legal officer. The OAG, employing over 1,700 people across New York State, serves all New Yorkers in numerous legal and regulatory arenas, including vigorously protecting the rights of investors and consumers, coordinating state-wide criminal investigations, promoting economic and social justice, encouraging harm reducing public health strategies, and preserving the State’s environment. The OAG also advises the Executive branch of State government and defends actions and proceedings on behalf of the State.


Responsibilities:
•Identifying and using tools to monitor data transmissions and analyze data streams;
•Examining source codes of websites and applications in multiple environments (including phones and tablets) to identify potential vulnerabilities and security flaws;
•Reviewing data breach notifications and assisting in investigations;
•Advising the Bureau on a wide range of internet and technology issues, e.g., privacy, computer security, and encryption standards;
•Compiling, summarizing, and succinctly presenting research on relevant entities and issues;
•Obtaining, analyzing and explaining large datasets related to investigations;
•Litigation support including drafting affidavits and letters; and
•Performing other duties as required.

Additional Comments Salary to be determined commensurate with experience.
