Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State, OR possess a limited permit to practice nursing in New York State*, OR be eligible to enter the examination for such license*.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for two Nurse 1 (substitute) positions in the New York State School for the Deaf (NYSSD). The incumbents of these positions will provide professional nursing services to the students at the NYSSD. Duties of these positions include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provide nursing intervention services for day and residential students;
• Provide instructional and dorm staff with information regarding students’ health in order to provide adequate care for the students;
• Develop and maintain communication with parents, staff, and students;
• Maintain accurate documentation of health records;
• Prepare clinical and administrative reports;
• Maintain infection control standards;
• Conduct health teaching and counseling; and
• Provide supportive or restorative care.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: These will be temporary, hourly, on-call appointments. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of licensure and registration will be required for all candidates at the time of interview. Continued employment as a Nurse 1 (substitute) is dependent upon maintaining a current license and registration as a professional Registered Nurse in New York State. Failure to maintain a license and registration as a professional Registered Nurse will result in removal from employment.
*You must obtain your New York State license within one year of the date of appointment or action will be taken to remove you from the position.
